Mimico
Located south of the Queen Elizabeth Way, Mimico lies on the eastern edge of Torono’s west-end waterfront neighbourhoods. Known for its gorgeous waterfront views, with accompanying parks and trails, the neighbourhood is an established residential community with easy access to the downtown core.
Real estate
Mimico offers a mix of older homes, newer residential developments, and low-rise apartment buildings. There are a variety of older homes, mostly bungalows, which are ideal for first home buyers, being more affordable than other areas of the city. A number of these properties have undergone extensive renovations, which tend to be larger and at a less accessible price-point. More and more townhouse and condominium development have given rise in the neighbourhood, prompted by its desired proximity to the waterfront. Affordable rental options are also available throughout the neighbourhood, mostly found in the form of low-rise apartments along Lake Shore Boulevard.
Shopping regions in the neighbourhood can be found mainly along Lake Shore Boulevard and Royal York Rd. These streets offer a balance between commercial chains and small independent stores.
The main source of recreation and character is Mimco’s waterfront. Mimico Waterfront Park features a boardwalk, and various walking and cycling trails, alongside small pockets of secluded wetland area. This area has become increasingly popular as the neighbourhood grows, yet remains a consistently quieter alternative to other Toronto waterfront areas like the Beaches and Harbourfront.
Mimico exudes a community-centered video, illustrated through its various local festivals. The neighbourhood hosts the “Lakeshore Community Festival,” the “Mimico Festival in March,” and the “Etobicoke-Lakeshore Christmas Parade.”
