Cedarvale
Located south of Eglinton, between Bathurst St and Oakwood Ave, Cedarwale is a predominantly residential area, with large detached homes and a prominent ravine cutting across the neighbourhoods center. While largely a residential area, Cedarvale offers ample retail, restaurant and transit options, making the neighbourhood a very accessible residential option in the city.
The neighbourhood historically has housed a large Jewish community, due to its proximity Holy Blossom Temple and Beth Tzedec Synagogue, both located on Bathurst St. It has, however, become increasingly diverse in recent years, especially to the west of the neighbourhood which currently houses the largest concentration of Caribbean shops, restaurants, and services in the entire city of Toronto.
Real estate
Cedarvale, while predominantly occupied by single detached homes, offers various options in terms of size, style, and price-point. The core of the neighbourhood largely has Tutor and Georgian style homes built in the early to mid 1900’s. These properties do, however, vary in size—ranging from large properties to small starter homes. The neighbourhood houses and interesting mix of housing varieties, including small bungalow and semi-detached starter homes alongside large and spacious detached homes. Some of the neighbourhood’s most expensive, and largest lots back onto Cedarvale Ravine. More affordable housing options are also increasingly available on the periphery of the neighbourhood, where apartment buildings and multiplex-homes are available.
The northern end of Cedarvale, namely Eglinton Avenue West, offers ample shopping and dining options—including, high end retail stores, specialty food markets, professional services and various restaurant options.
One of Cedarvale’s largest drawing card is its proximity to is its ravine and park space. Cedarvale Ravine, which some of the neighbourhood largest lots back onto, provides a hub of tranquility that residents can enjoy. This ravine is the perfect spot for leisurely strolls or jogs. It is also enjoyed cyclist, bird watchers, and during the winter months even cross-country slippers can be spotted using the ravine paths. The Ravine is connected to Cedarvale Park which also offers ample outdoor recreation options. The park has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a skating rink, and even an off-leash dog park.
